I have not been to Coyotes on The Strip for maybe 7-8 years. Back then, I have had several nice meals there, and the blackboard special of whitebait fritters sounded tempting. It was a hot sunny day, and The Strip is great for eat outside by the Avon River.
Unfortunately, this place was not like how I remembered, and this may be the first bad review on my blog!
As it was quite a hot day, I decided to have iced tea rather than my usual coffee. The iced tea came in a martini glass, which I thought was an interesting way to present it, even though the waitress spill the tea (but was quick to come back and wipe the table). However, I was surprised to find my iced tea warm and without ice!! It was also pretty tasteless and lack of any sugar. Quite disappointing at $5 a glass!
My friend's iced coffee was full of cream and did not taste much like coffee, another disappointing drink.
On the plus side, our glasses of water did come with ice!

Cajun chicken salad with tortilla strips |
The food was fortunately much better than our drinks. I had the chicken salad with grilled cajun chicken tenderloins in a yogurt and honey dressing topped with tortilla strips ($17). The cajun chicken was cooked well and went well with slices of brie included with the dish. The tortilla strips were a bit different from what usually comes with salads, but quite good with the dressing. The salad with red pepper, tomatoes, and shredded carrots were good on the first few bites, but did get a bit boring by the end. The dressing also was not very special.

Whitebait fritters with chips and salad |
My friend chose the blackboard special of whitebait fritter with chips and salad (maybe about $27). The whitebait fritter was nicely done and a decent size. The sauce, which we assumed was tartar with capers, was however not as nice. The chips were good, and were crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Tomato sauce were available on request, and we finished most of the chips by the end.
A disappointing meal, particularly the drinks. Maybe bottled drinks or coffee might have been safer. The food was not as bad, but still left something to be desired. I don't think I would be rushing back here anytime soon.
Update: Coyotes had closed following the Christchurch earthquakes.
