The factory made ones are usually cheaper, but you do get what you paid for. They are generally not as good as the bakery ones, both in texture and substance (such as the amount of dried fruits).
Over the last few years, I have been getting my hot cross buns from Bakers Delight. Bakers Delight is an Australasian chain bakery, selling a selection of freshly baked breads daily. Every Easter, they would have a range of hot cross buns, including the traditional, chocolate, and mocha.
I usually get their chocolate hot cross buns (a bag of 6 for $8.99), full of chocolate chips and dried fruits. They taste the best after heating (20 seconds in the microwave), and with a spread of good butter. Soft, fragrant, and full of chocolate goodness!! Yummmmm!!
This year, my friends N & V also highly recommended the chilli chocolate hot cross buns from Breads of Europe. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to try these out yet, but I am very keen to do so!
So have you had your hot cross buns yet? Better hurry before Easter's gone!
