Vic's Cafe & Bakery

My favourite going out meal would have to be brunch.  There's nothing like a good coffee and a good meal on a lazy day off.  And Vic's Cafe does not disappoint.

Situated on Victoria St near the Bealey Ave end, Vic's has been well established in Central Christchurch.  Providing hungry foodies with good food, coffee, and bread.

This was actually my first return visit to Vic's since the February 2011 quake.  I guess I've been busy exploring all the other cafes in town.  WM and I came here on Queen's Birthday Monday.  As usual, there were lots of people, but we managed to grab seats on the bench by the front door.

I ordered a soy latte in a glass ($3.80 + 50c for the soy).  Vic's uses the good stuff, C4 coffee beans, which I always liked.  The coffee was very nice, and a perfect start to the meal!

There were several breakfast and lunch options, but I went for an old favourite - eggs benedict ($17).  This came with grilled ham and poached eggs on toasted sourdough, hollandaise, tomato, and mushrooms.  I liked the mushrooms on the side, not something you get from most cafes.  The eggs were perfectly poached, and the hollandaise was nice and not too rich.  The sourdough was the winner of the dish, and I wouldn't expect anything less from a bakery!  Yum!

French toast

WM ordered the french toast with bacon, banana, yoghurt, fruit, and maple syrup ($18).  She doesn't like bananas, so went without. However her french toast still came with lots of fresh fruit.  It looked beautiful and tasted great.  Again the toast was a highlight, and everything else on the dish came together perfectly.

Another reason to visit Vic's (not that you need another reason), is for their bakery.  Freshly baked daily. WM bought a large organic sourdough, and I bought a very yummy parmesan bagel, and a fruit bagel. Vic's has a great range of delicious bagels.  I particularly enjoyed the parmesan bagel.  It was gorgeous after toasting, as the cheese on the outside became warm and crispy.  Mmmmm....

Vic's Cafe and Bakery is open Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm, and weekends 7.30am to 5pm. Breakfast menu available till 2pm.
