Sydney - Bacco Wine Bar Pasticceria

I did some research just prior to my latest food trip to Sydney, and came across Bacco on a Sydney food blog.  I was tempted by the beautiful pastries and added this to my list of must visits.

Bacco is an Italian styled cafe/pasticceria/wine bar.  They started with a shop in Chifley Plaza in Sydney CBD, and had just opened a shop inside the QVB prior to my visit.

I went to the QVB shop, and was impressed with the set up.  It was located on level 2 of QVB, and has a small number of seatings inside the shop, with more seatings available outside the shop where you get to seat just by the balcony.  Perfect position for "window shopping" and people watching.

The menu doubled as placemat and they had a good range of pizza, paninis, bruschetta, antipasto, and mains.  All were of traditional Italian flavours.

But my focus was on the pastries.  The cabinet at the counter had an amazing display of beautifully and freshly made pastries, cakes, and puddings.  The pastries were hand made by Bacco's executive pastry chef, who trained under the famous French pastry chef Pierre Herme.



Cannoli with ricotta cream



I ordered my favourite Italian dessert - the cannoli.  The cannoli here was wonderful.  It had a light pastry shell filled with delicious vanilla bean ricotta cream, with just the right balance and not too sweet.  I was happy and content after eating this!



Strawberry tart



My friends and I were also drawn by the colourful and beautiful strawberry tart.  It came in a light pastry shell filled with vanilla cream, topped with sweet juicy strawberries.  It was as pretty as a picture, and tasted just as good!



Berry panna cotta


I had such a good time at Bacco, I went back for the second time just before boarding my flight back to NZ.  Again I ordered the cannoli and my friend had the berry panna cotta.  The vanilla panna cotta was silky and creamy, topped with mixed berries.  It was another great dessert, although the berries were a bit too sour.

I definitely recommend this place for dessert lovers, especially if you love a good Italian pastry!  Their light meal/lunch menu also looked very interesting, and should be worth a try.
