Sydney - La Mint

La Mint was another great find from my research prior to my latest Sydney food trip.  Situated at Surry Hills, just east to Sydney CBD, it is a restaurant with French-Vietnamese influence.  We were very impressed with the menu, which had a good selection of traditional Vietnamese and traditional French cusine.  The menu even included a 7 course beef dish - a traditional Vietnamese dish with beef cooked 7 ways.  Unfortunately, we were busy stuffing ourselves with other Sydney delicacies earlier that day, and were unable to eat a big meal.  We ended up having one main each, and got to sample a bit of each.

Oxtail à la Bourguignonne

I had the tender and spicy oxtail served with zucchini, mushrooms, and carrots.  The oxtail was cooked beautifully with the tender meat just falling off the bone.  The vegitables and sauce were also a great match.

Shaking eye fillet with snake beans

My friend had the La Mint special - beef eye fillet tossed in butter and garlic served with snake beans.  It claimed to be melt-in-your-mouth, although the actual dish was slightly chewy.  However, it was still very tasty and had great flavours.

Pavé de Porc

My other friend had the tender pork belly, which were slow cooked till caramelised.  It was very well cooked, with tender melt-in-the-mouth pork belly infused with great Asian/Vietnamese flavours.  My friend was very impressed with this dish, and ranked it among the top pork belly dishes she has ever had.

We had a lovely meal at La Mint.  The restaurant had a great atmosphere and the service was also good.  The food were great and definitely worth a trip outside of the CBD.
